I was driving in the driveway, at my parents house, about 30 minutes ago and my voltmeter zeroed suddenly. The weather in Western New York is epic at the moment and there was snow coming over the hood in the drive way and was hitting the bumper on the roads.

I checked the battery connections and got the truck in the garage before turning it off. There is no way of moving this truck in the snow if it is not running. I turned it off and back on. It started fine and the voltmeter read normal after the regular drop after starting. I am hoping it will start in the morning.

Any ideas why this happened or if it is telling me something??

Thanks

Ted

Check the resting voltage of the batteries. Should be around 12. 6. Did the lights dim, or the stereo shut off, when guage went to zero? If they did not, then I would suspect the guage. Mine did the same thing at about 2000 miles, and has not done it again since. Can you run the truck in the garage for a while to check for alternator output and any abnormalities? Are the cables for the winch still secure?

Yeah, with four feet of snow on the ground, it wouldn't be fun to get stranded.

Well I willl be testing things if it does that again today. The winch install is solid, you saw how much time Batman and bigdaddy spent on those wires. Everything was operating normally that I could see. I know my stereo and sub will cut out if they sense a voltage below normal and they were running fine. I think something got wet or pushed but I sure freaked me out.

thanks for your help on the winch Jeff. I have not gotten a chance to right a "thank you" to all involved.
