Ok the other day I thought my lift pump died. Today I thought I would go ahead and remove the old one which is only six months old, and have everything ready to go when my new one gets here tomorrow. I started the truck up and the pressure was fine then the engine would draw down at ilde and the volt meter would drop to under 12 then slowly come back up. Well I was watching the fuel pressure gauge and it would drop with the volts... . so I was thinking what could be drawing like that? Well I disconnected the grid heater cables and taped them up and now the pressure is back up to 12-14, I drove it up the road and I can pull it down to about 6-7 under hard acceleration. But the voltage drop quit with me disconnecting the grid heaters. Could this have affected the pump? I dont remember the pressure dropping that low before under acceleration. I am wondering if the pump is actually shot or what is going on?

JDinterman,

How good are your batteries. The grid heater really sucks the juice and if the batteries are somewhat marginal I can see where this could affect pump output.

Might want to check battery and cable connections as well as the grid heater connection.

Godspeed,
Trent

Batteries are about two months old connections are clean, I put a load tester on the batteries and they are fine. I know the grid heater has something wrong but with them disconnected the truck seems fine. I think its time for a new truck... ... . lol
