I just changed out my battery clamps and now starter turns weak , & all my lights on the left side are dimmer then the ones on the right , also my alternator is constanly putting out 18amps at all times on the dash gauge . But when you turn the headlights on the gauge drops to halfway and stays there. When you turn the headlight off it jumps all the way back to 18amps. Does anyone have any idea of what the problem could be. I dont believe it to be the battery because I have used 2 seperate batteries and same outcome each time.:confused::confused:

Assuming you put the repair clamps on the cable ends, that is a big no-no and likely the source of the problem.

The PCM has to read voltage from the battery and that comes from the charge wire on the hot cable which sounds like it is not making ocntact. The draw from the lights is more than the connection thru the clamps can handle so it dims the lights and overcharges trying to compensate.

Source new correct cables with the soldered on ends if you want things to work correctly.

You can make up your own cables, I did. Just make sure the battery connections are the crimped type and the cable is at least as large as OEM.
