Welcome to TDR!

I'd say your headlight switch needs replacing. Very easy job.

Might want to check, it was covered by a recall on some model years.

When I had problem with head lights in my 96 it was caused by multifunction switch (turn signal sw) my head lights would not come on with head light sw, but if you operate your hi beam sw (multifunction sw) and hold on, your hi beams would work but if you let it go they will go off. Check your connector to head light sw, make sure it is tightly connected. Hope it is a loose wire connector or H. L. Sw and not M. F. Sw. Hope this helps.
