Electrical problems

When I start my truck,I turn on the key the wait to start and water in fuel lights pulse on and off. Under the hood I could hear the fuel pump relay clicking on and off, I replaced it and it does the same thing. After I start it the lights pulse and the tach stays at 0 for a minute then pulses for another minute. Ijust got back from Oregon. on the way back the cruise control started kicking out, I hit the set button and the tach would drop ,the wait to start would flash, and the transmission would shift out of overdrive. This problem is intermitent. I went to get the fault codes and nothing comes up, not even the 5 5 code. Does this sound like my controller is going out?

played with it again now a get a 1-2 code, any ideas

satmike the factory service manual does not list a 12 fault code. It does state that the wait to start light will flash on and off if the charged air temperature sensor input to the engine controller is below minimum value or above maximum value, but the fault code for this is 23. This would not explain the dropping out of overdrive or the non responding tach. Check the connection for the engine speed sensor at the front of the engine near the top. This the signal thats used for the tach and is one of the signals the engine controller uses to decide when to shift the transmission into overdrive.
