Hi Guys, I'm a new member and need help with my 93 LE 5-speed 4x4 136,000 original owner. I've experienced this problem for about a year or so and it's been gone for about 6 months but is back after washing my engine out (first time I've done this). My problem is that my voltmeter jumps down to the first line and will stay there for a long time (even in hot 90 degree weather)and its not for the heater grid. After it has been run for awale (15 min. or so)it will start jumping back and forth. When this happens, I have the stock tach installed, which when the voltmeter is down the tach does not work. When the voltmeter jumps the tach jumps. Also when this happens my cruse control will not work. I'm trying to find out what it might be before a breakdown. Any help would be great!!!!!!

Water

Sounds like water is getting into something and shorting it out. There are quite a few connectors on the engine wiring harness and under the hood that could be affected in this way. There also could be a section of damaged wiring harness that is shorting out partialy. Also check for bad chassis grounds. Your alternator should be fine, as you have not mentioned any charging problems. Check the voltage at the battery, should be about 12. 75 volts, and with the engine running, 13. 75 to 15. 5 volts.
