On my old '93, now my brother's, a large 10ga green wire heated up and melted the insulation on it an inch or two from the fusible link. The truck was shut off and then would not start and the battery was quickly drained. I cut the green wire and the truck would start and run. But no radio. The alt does not charge but the headlights work, turn signals, fan etc. Not sure what happened. Has this happened to anyone before?

Thanks

does the green wire run to the alternator from the ASD relay?, the radio not working does not make sense but the alternator does, i've been messing with the wiring alot on my truck, email me or post here i'll help as much as i can, my dad is an electrition and has totally rewired my truck so shoot away with the Q'?

Sorry I should have explained better. The green wire comes from a wire splitter ( not sure what exactly to call it). The splitter is fed with a large black wire (8 or 10 guage) and a red wire. On the other side is an orange wire (20ga), orange wire(20 ga), brown wire, large green wire, then orange (20ga wire). This is all located on the drivers side inner fender close to the grid heater relays. The black wire comes from a loom with lots of wires in it. Hope this helps. I'm thinking that the fusible link was corroded and caused high resistance and heat or something shorted out. I just don't want to hook it back up and fry something.

Thanks for the help.

I think the lead you're talking about only goes to the alternator. I'll send you the wiring diagram pages if you'll tell me where to send email with attachments in a PM.
