I've got one, and want a spare. I want one that will start the truck. I know I can get a $3 one that will only open the door, but I need an electronic duplicate. I called the place where they sell and service cars and steal your money, and the key is $46, and it's a one hour job to program it!!! Holy crap!!! That's another $75!! Is there any other way?

If you have 2 orignal keys you can use this procedure

CUSTOMER LEARN PROGRAMMING

Obtain the additional Sentry Key transponder blank(s) that are to be programmed for the vehicle. Cut the additional Sentry Key transponder blanks to match the ignition lock cylinder mechanical key codes.

Insert one of the two valid Sentry Key transponders into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

After the ignition switch has been in the ON position for about three seconds, but no more than fifteen seconds, cycle the ignition switch back to the OFF position. Replace the first valid Sentry Key in the ignition lock cylinder with the second valid Sentry Key and turn the ignition switch back to the ON position. Both operations must be performed within 15 seconds.

In approximately ten seconds the VTSS indicator LED will start to flash to indicate that the system has entered the “Customer Learn” programming mode.

Within approximately sixty seconds of entering the “Customer Learn” programming mode, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, replace the valid Sentry Key with a blank Sentry Key transponder, and turn the ignition switch back to the ON position.

In approximately ten seconds, the VTSS indicator LED will stop flashing and stay on solid for approximately three seconds and then turn OFF to indicate that the blank Sentry Key transponder has been successfully programmed. The SKIS will immediately return to normal system operation following exit from the “Customer Learn” programming mode.

Repeat this process for each additional Sentry Key transponder blank to be programmed.

If any of the above steps is not completed in the proper sequence, or within the allotted time, the SKIS will automatically exit the “Customer Learn” programming mode. The SKIS will also automatically exit the “Customer Learn” programming mode if it sees a non-blank Sentry Key transponder when it should see a blank, if it has already programmed eight valid Sentry Keys, or if the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position for more than about fifty seconds.

NOTE: While in Customer Learn mode (LED flashing), the engine will not START and RUN.

$75 for less than 5 minutes of work is unbelievable. Most local key shops now sell Sentry key blanks, or you can buy them on eBay for around $15 + shipping and have them cut locally.

The programing instructions listed above are in the owner's manual. I believe that you can have a maximum of 4 Sentry keys per truck.

You should hide a non-Sentry key somewhere under the truck in case you would accidentally lock your Sentry key inside. If someone finds that hidden key they wouldn't be able to start your truck with it.

My dealer gave me an extra chip key and cut it free and then I programed it from the instructions on in the owners guide.

Just a quick question. What does the sentry key look like? I have two grey keys and dont know if they are sentry keys

Thanks

Hoagie

If you can't read your owners manual and program your key yourself, you deserve to pay $75 an hour to have it programmed. Also, to justify the charge, if you didn't have two keys, you would need a DRB in order to program the keys.

Transponder key

I have a code that is coming up on the dash. It's P063 (Security key). My engine will not start, and I have tried both keys. Does this mean that I have to have new keys made, or is there a way to re-set the keys that I already have? Or can I bypass the dodge security system and go back to using my old keys that came with the truck when I bought the truck?

You have a tow in my friend :( There can be a number of things causing your condition but you will need a drb to test it.

I have a 2006 with 1200 mile on it. I experienced the same problem. Tow it in first time at 356 miles (could not find anything wrong). It is now sitting in the shop (going on for a week now) at 1200 miles waiting for dodge's engineers to get back from vacation so they can put some more parts in it. I was told that the 06's have six different modules that could be the problem or even the ECM. Thank God for warranties!

I'm looking for some extra sentry keys for my Jeep, dealer wants 135 for the key..... I looked at the normal places, the box stores etc... . can't fine a security key and I have the same programing information in my owners manual as listed above ..... someone found the security key for 19. 00..... where did you find it... ...

Thanks for the help.....

I got the truck back finally today. Dodge's fix it was removing the fuse and waiting 60 seconds then put it back in until it happens again. They said that they do not have a permanent fix yet do to they do not know what is wrong for sure.

I got my key for 25 bucks at a lock smith' shop :)

My truck does not seem to be going into customer learn mode despite multiple attempts and my best efforts to follow the procedure given by CArnold above. I just can't get the light to come on after I turn the second key to the on position. Does anyone have any hints on how to make this work?

I have an 06 also and just bought and programed a new key. I bought the key at the dealer and had them cut it. When I brought it home and used both the programed keys and tried programming the new key per the instructions in the owners manual none of the lights flashed like the manual said. I tried several times and still no results. By the way I tried using the key without programing and it started but shut off in a couple of seconds and wouldn't unlock the doors.
I finally tried it again and just observed all the sequence and time intervals and ignored the fact that the lights didn't flash and the programming was successful. Truck starts and continues to run and the doors lock and unlock. It was very frustrating but now works. Try it and just ignore that the lights don't flash. Good luck
