okay going to fix the emergency brake since it really doesnt work.

first the shoes that napa priced me where $89. 00 ouch..... is this about right or is there a cheaper source out there.

once I take off the back rotors to get to the shoes remove replace and there is a starwheel adjuster through the dust cover is this correct is it that simple. I havent checked under the truck yet. any special tools needed to do this or off the wall things needed for this repair.

$89. 00 is not to bad. I got mine here for $82. 00. There is a star wheel on the back to adjust the brakes. It's not that bad of a job at all. As long as the rotors come off easy.

Why you changing shoes? Been driving with the brake on? :D

Can't see why the shoes would ever need changed since they aren't the primary brakes and only engage with the ebrake. Just adjust them out a bit with the star wheel.

can you adjust the starwheel with out taking off anything. and I still need to crawl under to find this starwheel... yep I have forgot a time or two and drove off, besides the emer-brake helps build boost when its on.

:-laf That's why I leave mine on, too...

Yep, you can get to the starwheel from the back of the drum (through the dust shield). You'll find a slot that has a rubber plug in it (one side is above the axle and the other is below). Pop the plug and spin the starwheel. A flathead screwdriver will work, but a drum brake adjusting spoon will work better (cheap, nice to have). Get the tire off the ground and spin it by hand while you adjust out the starwheel (rotate away from the axle iirc). Once you feel the brake start to drag, back off the starwheel one click or so. Lather, rince, repeat for the other side.

Those sound like the cheap shoes. The cheap ones were that price and the good ones were just over $100 when I did mine. Well actually I bought the cheap shoed first, and I didn't notice there were thin and thick pads (normally it's long and short)... so those pads lasted like 3 weeks.
