The other night at a rodeo, I went to set my parking brake, (Mine is the one that has the ratchet click sound to it, then returns to the top once set), and it went down as usual, but then all of a sudden it popped, and no more brake... Now I cannot get the ratchet sound to even come out of the brake assembly. . Do any of y'all or have any of y'all had this problem?? What the heck is it? I need my E-brake by this weekend! Help me out y'all!!!

E Brake

Sounds like the cable broke. Time for some up close and personal time under the dash and the truck to see where it failed. bg

well, I have been up under the dash, and the cable feels fine... do you have to take that whole ass'y off to get to the end of the cable???

If you can see the ball on the end of the cable then that part of it is probably ok. Since the ratchet sound is gone, it sounds like the cable is not retracting(broke). Have you looked at the cable under the truck? If so, grab hold of it somewhere like under the drivers seat and pull, if it is broken inside the housing, it may pull out, also have someone release the e-brake while you pull on the cable, if the ratchet abality returns, that will verify that part of the system is ok. Of course it could be in one of the rear brake drums, something came loose or broke. bg

I went under the truck, pulled out a little bit of slack, but it does not pull out completely. . However, I can go to the brake assembly and pull on the cable (What I can reach) and the cable under the truck moves as well, leading me to believe this part is ok. However, I have played with that whole E brake assembly, and it will not ratchet at all. I think that is the bad part. the brake cables seem fine underneath, but it is almost time for me to get ready for work; so I will have to finish up looking at it tomorrow. Thanks for the help, and if you or anyone else has/have anymore ideas, please post them!
