Here is a possible explaination of why some of us have had an unexpected release of the E-brake.

The main cable going to the rear splits into 2 cables. If one side cable is frozen stuck, and the brake is set using the good cable, slack could be introduced into the system if the stuck cable un-sticks. That might release the brakes. I always put it in gear after I set the brake.

Emergency/parking brake

The strangest thing happened to me about three weeks ago.

When I released the brake the light on dash would stay on. So I looked under the dash and ever so gently bent the small metal tang on the little bracket that makes contact with the pedal that makes the light come on. And then I also adjusted the E-brake cable some so it doesn't have too much slack in it. Now it works good and when it is engaged, the pedal is not as far down to the floorboard as it used to be. Seems to be O. K. so far.

Just some input.

Phil
