My passenger side front emergency blinker doesn't work. The drivers side works and both the rears work. All the turn signals work. Could the flasher modual be bad?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

I would suspect a bad bulb. Have you checked to see if the parking lamps all work? The bulb has two elements inside, one for the turn signal and the other for the parking light. I'm guessing that the emergency flasher flashes the parking lamp element. Please, correct me if I am wrong. You could try swapping the turn signal flasher with the emergency flasher as a quick test of the flasher module.

Hope that helps.

I was incorrect the emergency flasher doesn't flash the parking lamp element in the bulb. I'd still try swapping the flashers to see if one is bad. Since, they are easily accessed in the fuse panel. If your flasher isn't bad I'd start checking fuses and wiring. On a side note I usually replace the standard flashers with heavy duty flashers especially when towing trailers that have lights.

Good luck.

STorluemke, I changed the bulb and that did not fix it. I was reading in the manual about a "combination flasher". I guess the 01 had one modual that controled the emergency flasher and the turn signals. I will replace this and see where it takes me.

Thanks for your input!

As noted the emergency flasher flashes turn signals not park lamps. NOW, presuming the SAME flasher device serves both functions AND you have normal turn signals…something is going on with the hazard circuit only. Again I'm guessing that wiring is similar to my '98. I would go immediately to the hazard switch. This switch operates wiring that is separate from but parallel to the turn signal switch (splices into it). Hence turn signals may be fine but one or a side of hazards may fail to turn on. Try to clean the switch, actuate it several times to clean the contacts— it sits up on the column and likes to collect dust.

I'd try this before attacking any other wiring.

DieselDoghouse, I tried actuating the emergency flasher switch several times while moving it from side to side. This fixed it. I guess it was full of dust from lack of use. I will exercise the switch more often.

Thanks for the help.

When you so rarely use then this can happen. Mine will sometime not want to come on and stay on or hard to get them to stop. I wonder if contact cleaner or something can be used to clean them and if so do you have to remove column covers, etc. to get to it?

Course a dust-sealed switch just woulda cost too much!! Glad the fix was simple. In 12 years I have learned our trucks, though outstanding and reliable, do have more than their share of stupid electrical gremlins designed to waste time if you don't find the non-obvious solution - so I try to pass the word!:)
