Just some interesting numbers... .

When I bought this truck in '99, there were no emissions tests in Massachusetts (for diesels), however, that changed. When I went in for my recent inspection, I was told I had to do an emissions test. Started getting nervous (I've owned a lot of junkers in the past - not that this is one of them).

Anyway, the guy hooked it up, ran a constant rpm test, and an 'instant throttle' test (or something like that).

There is only one parameter they test for: opacity.

The state limit is 40. 0 I am happy to say that my truck came in at 0. 05 !!!

The guy told me that he ran a Ford PowerStroke the day before, bran new truck that a local dealer had just sold (dealers don't have the diesel test stuff, so they send it out), and... ..... yup... ..... you guessed it... ... failed.

Got Cummins?

When my baby turned one, I had to have it emission tested.

The data sheet they gave me had all of my vehicle information, but no numbers to indicate readings. Only a statement towards the bottom that stated, "Thank you for complying with Connecticut’s Emission Standards" I still don't know what they check for

Well, just went for my emissions test... I had to get out of my truck and watch from the 'waiting room' as a clueless employee drove? it onto dyno type rollers. After a couple of upshifts she held it at 2300+/-rpms for approx. 60 seconds( I could only see the tach from my vantage point) couldn't tell what gear she had it in. So after paying $20. 00 I got my report; max opacity(%)20. 0 - read 0. 0!What a joke this testing is! Anyways, just heard some new emissions inspection rules: (for CT?) "If you have purchased or purchase a car that is a 2000 through 2003 model, you are exempt from emmisions testing during the first four model years. " Does this apply to us??

Hope so;)

This year has seen wide spread changes in the CT DMV. It seems every month something changes with their rules and regulations.

For example, Farmington told me I had to register my log splitter as a "Camper Trailer". When I went to do this at the Bridgeport DMV, they didn't have a clue:rolleyes:

Only time will tell:confused:

Testing

We have it in Utah too, don't know what they check for either. Last year stock at 30% power it read . 4 at WOT read 1. 0 max 30 this year with EZ on I didn't remove it just to see the results at 30% power it read . 8 at WOT 1. 4 max was 30 .

I had almost identical #'S as Chuck3, we will see what the DDII's do to that. They check for opacity, which is smoke or unburned fuel.

Glad that I don't live in CT ( not that it's a bad State). No way I would make that cut. If I blip the throttle at idle I get a small but dense black cloud, lol.

Bigsaint,

It would be interesting to see the emission knuckleheads attempt to hook the testing hose to your stack :D

BTW, we don’t call Connecticut “The Pay Me State" for nothing

Its not true... yet

Hey guys, I just went through this garbage in Massachusetts myself. Wanna know what happened? Aside from frustrating wait times, nothing.

My car's inspection expired in August. Oops, boy that sticker is hard to see from the drivers side :) So I went looking for an inspection station that actually had the September stickers. After driving around for about 45 minutes I found one and got in the 1. 5 hour line to get inspected. After waiting for what was closer to two hours, I started up my truck and headed for the garage, the tech stopped me and said hey buddy... I didn't know you had a diesel, you cant get it inspected here, they changed the regulations and we cant do the emissions test. He told me I had to drive out to Sturbridge I think (a good haul from Beverly) After arguing with the guy for a bit about him making me wait for 2 hours only to turn me away, I realised I was arguing a point about emissions I didn't know much about... So I gave up, went home and tried to get my ducks in a row by calling the DMV... 5:05PM... DMV has been closed for 5 minutes and I have to wait another day.

Next day: I call the DMV and tell them what happened. They say that there are NO light truck diesel emissions tests in Massachusetts yet, only for the trucks over 10,500 lbs and they dont know when light truck diesel emissions will be in place. I could'nt believe I had just waited 2 hours to be BSd.

So... I went down to the nearest Texaco, pulled in, payed my $15 for the 3 minute test of turning on my headlights and popping my hood. . No emissions check and my truck pulled out with a shiny new September sticker. . Too bad I didn't try the Texaco 1 block away from my house the first time.

Im starting to believe that emissions testing is the biggest sham I have ever seen. Never had the tester actually ask me what my peak HP was and at what RPM hehe. Shoot the guy $20 bucks and he seems to overlook everything.

Here in AZ we used to do the loaded roller test. Now we do the snap idle test. Both are a waste of time. Even with my current setup, I pass with 0% opacity. I have learned to offer to sit in the truck myself and press the go-peddle when they indicate.

My truck will smoke like crazy if you stomp the peddle. I ease into the throttle when they say. The techs have no clue.

The last time I went through, all the techs put on gas-masks before I started the test. :) They also made sure my exhaust was outside the building.

There was an old Mercedes diesel in front of me that smoked a lot on idle. When he stomped it filled the place with smoke. I was told he passed.

The system is screwed up.

Same kinda experience here in the Communistwealth as CLorox - when dealer finally decided they couldn't do it (after fines from the Registry) they were going to send me to a truck shop…that also doesn't even have the dyno!! I finally found a place, when my VIN was scanned in (there's some sort of link to RMV - if the tech seems vague about emissions, he/she may not know until they scan the truck) and no emissions authorized anyway!! But - I got my lights and tires checked!!!

Massachusetts does not have its act together !

hmmmm... . I wonder if the rmv and MassPort are related.

very frustrationg.

oh yeah, just found out today the rmv has been sitting on my trailer registration renewal for two weeks because they need some 'other' form filled out. My camper HAS to leave the campground by this Saturday.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to say to the cop when I get pulled over.

Hi officer. My that's a lovely gun you have there.

I feel sorry for you guys we down here in Oklahoma just got rid of our inspection sticker! And most places in the state don't do emission testing. When they did do it it was only $5. 00
