Interesting. Do you know the reason by chance?

Pa attempted state wide testing a number of years ago. They even built the buildings. But, it died before they started the testing.

We still have it in select counties, but nothing state wide.

Been doing it for almost 40 years. I guess our cars are clean enough now. Air quality is better than it was when they started. Cars have better emissions, better gas, etc than the old days.

But wait, what will the states do with the loss of revenue from emissions testing? My 06 is bone stock, I don't pollute, but I fear this is a revenue stream for a lot of states that would make emissions tests hard to eliminate. They've figured out yet another way to dip into your wallet once a year...I'm surprised (and glad) that WA has dropped it.

Maybe they figured out the red tape costs more than the return?

In Il. only gas engine vehicles are tested in specially congest area like the six counties around Chicago and a couple of counties near East St. Louis. Diesel engines have never been tested.

I think there's a real good chance of that, but government rarely shrinks in size. It's a win for WA residents though.

We got emissions testing kicked out of Alaska several years ago.....I hate to admit......but it was with the help of the EPA. Their studies showed that newer cars ran so much cleaner and lasted longer without needed repairs and polluted significantly less. The costs incurred by the state were well beyond what the inspection process could recover by charging for the service.......................sounds just like any government program, doesn't it!?

I heard it was actually supposed to be sunsetted here in wash after 40 years. I guess they decided it wasnt worth it to renew it. Never heard of a government law or tax actually being sunsetted before.
