Have a '99 with 47RE, and an Emjay controller that has been flawless for about 140,000 miles. Recently had an issue with a bad ground, which has since been corrected. At that time of the ground issue, the controller was exhibiting weird characteristics; mostly wouldn't go into overdrive without depressing the OD button on the column/shift lever.

Since then I have not been able to reset (re-write) the old strategies into the Emjay, and in fact it won't even rewrite to the factory defaults. Regardless of what switch position or which strategy chosen, all three positions are the same - overdrive drops in about 60 MPH. A bit too high for 'round-town driving.

By-passing the Emjay with the harness that Mike provided to do so, returns the transmission to stock operation, with no issues. Just drove over 1,000 miles that way, proving that, by process-of-elimination, that it's not a transmission issue. Has to be the controller. (I worked with Mike to resolve the dreaded '98-'99 TC constant lock/unlock at partial throttle around 45-50 MPH. The Emjay controller solved forever that problem. )

Anyone out there have much experience with troubleshooting the Emjay controller? It's been flawless, and a great asset to towing. I'd like to continue with it.

Otherwise, if it's history, and time to move on, any suggestions? I believe that Mike was selling his controller to ATS for their private label sale before he passed away... anyone with experience there?

Need to do something!

Thanks -

I followed the fight here on the TDR when the Emjay was first offered for sale, but I don't have one. I'd say call ATS or maybe Bellflower Transmission in Bellflower.

I am haveing similar issues after some trans repair work I am getting 2nd gear starts, I need the EMJAY software disk, Latest Version with Over Drive hold off speeds greater than 55 mph to reprogram my trans.

Mine was washed away by Hurricane Katrina at the Firehouse I used to be stationed at. Were in a new house now on higher ground.

Thanks, TJ

Thanks TJ for the reply! I found a new one, all though an earlier version of the software, on the East Coast. I was a Beta tester for Mike Steiger, and am convinved of what his abilities were. Great guy; too bad he's gone.

I was looking at the BD Towloc as a replacement, but my experience with calling Canada and asking questions - even before buying was not pleasant! The replacement Emjay Strategy controller should be on the way to me very soon, and I'm sure I'll be very happy to continue on with Emjay.

Thanks again.

Oops - meant to say thanks to rrausch! TJ, I may have an extra CD when I get this replacement Emjay. Don't know that Emjay has anything to do with 2nd gear starts - you may want to search the forum on that. But if you need an Emjay CD, PM me. I may have an extra, or I may be able to e-mail the file to you, too.
