There is a whole lot of you out there that tow trialers with all sorts of stuff packed in them, so maybe you can point me in the right direction. I would like a boat trailer that is enclosed yet somewhat easy to launch the boat. Could have a canvas back door or one that folds up or wide to the side like big rig trailers, I don't think a ramp is a good idea! Front side doors like the ones for snowmobiles, I would think rollers inside not bunks, a V shaped nose seems appropriate.

Let's hear of other ideas even if you don't know of a builder. 18' outboard v bottom runabout. Maybe a trialer that is like a cover wagon where the canvas moves forward out of the way when launching. That would serve two aspects, cover when stored and a little more protection when rolling down the road.

I don't really know of any enclosed boat trailer. I sure you know that most people just use a boat cover. Adding roller bunks to any enclosed trailer would your best bet, and float on bunks would even be easy to fab up. Overton's - Boating Accessories & Watersports Store > Boat Covers, Wakeboards, Boat Seats, Tubes, PWC, Marine Accessories has inline roller bunks. Winch up front to help sure the boat down and straps on the stern. Trailer axles might be a concern, I don't think they have any extra cortisone resistance for be dunked it the water or even salt water. Electric brake almost work after they have been dunked it the water, boat trailer use surge brakes for this reason.

Adding hoops to your already existing trailer and have a canvas trap made for it would be the most logical idea.

If money is no problem Custom Boat Trailers PWC Trailers Off Road Trailers Car Haulers Military Trailers Double Deck Trailers can build any boat trailer you want.

Hope this helps.

Good thoughts! THX for your response, that custom place is near my Dad, I'll check them out when i visit him next. THX capt PJ

I once fished a BASS Pro/Am and drew Guy Eaker, Sr. He had an enclosed drive-on boat trailer that you backed into the water. The rear doors swung completely back to the sides and fastened while unloading and loading the boat. No one with a quality bass boat uses rollers, they warp the hull. His had board supports, just like a normal bass boat trailer. There was a front door on the drivers side to get in and out. Inside were storage cabinets and a walk around deck about the level of the gunnels. It was a *****to back down the ramp in the dark, but I guess with a little practice it wouldn't have been too bad. A few other pros on the circuit had like trailers. I have no idea where they were built.

GAmes, I don't submerge my wheel bearings ever!! That is why I like rollers! If you have a correct set up of transom rollers and center keel rollers plus balance rollers up front like I have had on 3 different trailers, you do not get cupping or warp in the hull... also that says to me that the bass boat hulls are light for speed and need to be supprted on their stringers... this ain't no bass boat. It is used in the Puget Sound and other waters than can get really nasty in a hurry! I bet if I research bass pros i could find the trailers. THX for the idea and good comments.

That is an understatement. My 17'10"Ranger (top of the line) weighs, IIRC, less than 1100 pounds. With 150 outboard, full of fuel and fishing gear, on the trailer, about 2500. It is an older model, the new ones weigh less.

My dad has a vintage race boat and his idea is to pack the 16' Allison on a trailer, towed with a quad, into a 26' enclosed car hauler. They even offer special dolly trailers for boats that get trailered like this. You will see them under the drag boats at the races.

KL... there's another good idea, I'll start looking in the race stuff! THX

Talked to EZloader today and they don't build anything special, it would modified after market.

I have been working on a dolly to hold a boat that will retract into an enclosed trailer. I think it is a great concept that would protect the boat and provide secured storage for the boat and any accessories that you have. Fiberglass hulls must be supported over a broad surface area or it will distort. Rollers put pressure on a small area of the hull. Bunks spread the weight out and are best for fiberglass hulls.

No problem, but in the bass boat business mine is rather slow. 62 with just me, 57 with a passenger. I friend of mine has a 20 foot ranger with a 250 on it. It is fairly fast, but not the fastest on the lake.

In the mid to late 80s, I owned a Ranger bass boat about the same size as Gary's with a 175 HP outboard. It would easily do 65 MPH with just me in it, but like Gary's it wasn't the fastest bass boat on the lake.
