A few days ago I met the owner of three CTD chassis cabs that he mounted boxes on. Two of them are '95 and the one he was driving at the moment was a 2001. He is a contractor for the Postal Service and he (and a couple other drivers in his other trucks) hauls mail between offices.

He said his two 95's have about 525,000 and 575,000 miles on them with no major problems, just routine stuff. They are all standard shift, with his having a 6 speed. He told me about some woman who also has a contract out of one of his offices. She has gone though FIVE Chevy/GMC diesels in the time he has had one of his 95's!!

He was quite happy with his CTD's.

A guy in my hometown started doing the contract mail hauling thing for the post office back in the mid '70's.

When he started out, he got two new Ford F-350's and two new Chevy C30 chassis cab/box bodys. He knew he was going to go though trucks pretty quickly, and wanted to see which one held up the best.

The Fords (360 or 390 & New process 4 speed) held up quite a bit better than the chevys (350 std trans. ) As his business grew, and he picked up more contracts, he wanted something bigger and more durable than the F-350's, so he tried some Mercedes box bodys about the size of an F650 - 750. These performed way better than the Fords, he used them for years, and was going to buy new ones until someone talked him into trying an Isuzu. He bought one and liked it so well that he ended up replacing his whole fleet with Isuzus. He stuck with them until graduating to 18 wheel tractor trailer rigs. I'll check next time I go home & see what kind of tractor's he's running.
