truck wont die. been taking few sec. after key is off to die like the solenoid

is sticking. been using manual fuel shutoff

My ignition switch went out a bit at a time, the truck wouldn't turn off sometimes... then never.

To check to see if it is electrical or mechanical, pull a wire off the shutoff solenoid, PO had actually intalled a toggle switch in the line to the solenoid.

The switch didn't cost much at the local parts house and it wasn't bad to swap.

now it misses real bad under any load. changed fuel filter and lift pump,guess the solenoid will take out to see if it is the problem. can it not open all the way and cause this to happen?

What can happen is the rubber tip on the solenoid can wear away, this will allow a small amount of fuel to leak past, that is the run on you've experienced. If there is a piece that is hanging off the tip while it is open, this can cause interference to fuel flow while it is running... check the solenoid & replace if worn.

Yeah, mine wouldn't shut off either, took out the solenoid and the plunger tip had a big hunk gone. I hope that piece doesn't come back to haunt me!
