I am wondering what you are seeing fail in the higher mile trucks, and are they showing any tendency in the order of failure?

Things like water pump, serpentine belt tensioner, starter, steering pump, alternator.....

Also, is there any clear consensus emerging with regard to the best solution to the lift pump issue, from among the various alternatives?

Water pump failed at 110K.

~25K on my RASP. I've not heard of any problems, not even a belt failure. I carry a spare. Nice not to have to watch my FP guage all the time.

Another TDR member around here has more miles than mine, and drag races a lot.

My water pump made it to 102k. My batteries made to 85k, My lift pump made it 65k. My intake heater relays made it to 42k. My exhaust system almost lasted 2 weeks and my silencing ring only lasted 1 day.

I bought pads because the rear was squealing and surely if the rear was worn to the indicators the front would need pads as well. Boy was I surprised to find the existing pads had . 050" more material than the new ones :--). I also replaced the clutch but that was my fault because of the add ons.

For what it's worth... .

I was having an alternator rebuilt a while back and they guy noticed my CTD sitting there. He said I'll be bringing in its alternator around 110k and might as well bring the starter in at the same time... . it will be next. He seemed to be a reputable fella - rebuilds starters/alternators for a living. (He also said something about the CTD starters being Toyota made??)

I guess that's sort of true, this is an excerpt from their website.

I had to install Larry B's contacts in the starter back around 150,000 miles. And I had to replace a hub and bearing assembly this week while doing a brake job. And I now have 173,000 miles on the clock. So far all of the other engine accs are doing OK. I doubt if any of the starters are really failing, it's just the small factory contacts wearing out. It takes less than an hour to pull the starter and replace the contacts I've also installed a heavy duty spring. Seems like I paid 34. 00 for all of it. I replaced my lift pump almost 40,000 miles ago with an AirDog. And have been happy ever since.
