I was waiting in line at the county dump and the Trans temperature went up to

185 almost 190 and the stock Engine temperature gauge went over the half way mark.

The transmission always ran up to 180 and the engine temperature gauge would always be a hair or 2 under the half way mark I added a trans temperature gauge and a deep trans pan.

The temperature outside was 70 degrees.

When I left and started driving home the temperature came back down the Trans

about 160 the engine under the half way mark that was the mark that it always was.

When I got home I checked the coolant level and it was at max line on the reserve fluid container.

And the transmission was normal right up to the top of the checkered area.

I changed the water pump around 4 years ago and it's not leaking or I would have had to add coolant.

Could the belt tensioner be bad?

Any help would be a big help.

Thanks

Sounds pretty normal for temps sitting in a line and moving slow. Did you have it in gear all the time and just using the brakes?

Might chekc for codes and see if you have one for the fan. Maybe the electric fan clutch has given up.

Sounds perfectly normal to me especially if you left it in drive with your foot on the brake.

Yep, that's why I always shift an automatic transmission to neutral waiting in situations like that and in a line at RR crossings, long stop lights, etc. No point in leaving it in gear and letting the torque converter churn/heat the fluid needlessly. In neutral, no churning and the fluid is circulating through the coolers.
