I just installed an engine block heater cord, but I can't really tell exactly how it's supposed to be routed. It comes with push-in mounts to hold it in place, but I'm not sure where the right holes are and how it should be routed.

Can anyone supply me with an illustrated diagram or pictures for proper mounting? I have it safely away from anything hot, but would like to make it right.

2006 RAM 2500 QC/LB Laramie 4x4

Thanks.

The first hole you will clip into is almost directly above the stearing rod on the passenger side. It will be on the engine side of the frame about 1. 5 inches up from the bottom of the frame.

From there, you will find that the cord clips are spaced correctly for the frame holes leading to the front of the frame. Clip them in. Find a convenient place for the cord to exit.

That worked. I wasn't looking on the frame originally because I thought it went over to the body.

Thanks for your help.

I just got a Mopar block heater cord from Ebay and did a search for where it plugs in on TDR (Love this site). I see two "plugs" below and to the rear of the oil filter. One is silver with what looks like a Torx fitting, this one if flush with the engine block. The other is black with knurls around the perimeter and looks to be capping something that is protruding from the block. I didn't want to make a mistake and unscrew the right one so can anyone let me know that has installed the block heater cord on their 3Gen, is the block heater plug behind the silver, flush cap or the black protruding one? Thanks in advance.

The second one is the one you want. That cap just protects the connector if you don't have the cord installed.

Look at your cord, it should screw on where the cap comes off from.

It is the black plastic cap with ridges on it. Just unscrew it align the pins on your new cord and screw the cord retaining nut on the threads where the black cap was screwed on. I bought mine at truck shop for $13, 6 foot Phillips Temro or something like that made in Canada. It came with a knurled nut so I think hand tight is all that is necessary. Some on Ebay had hex nut so I don't know about those. The truck dealer also had a longer option if a longer cord is desired, not really necessary for Dodge. Easy to install from above with removal of turbo to air filter tube.
