Hello everyone, Tried searching for my answers but no luck. MY 01 4x4 6spd has 460k on it a its time for a another motor. I found a 24valve late 90s non53, automatic complete ex fedex truck engine for about half the cost local bone yards want for thiers. My question is there an major differentces that would keep me from swaping my dodge stuff onto this motor and using it, my truck doesn't use a ckp sensor only camshaft sensor. Will the my dodge camshaft sensor work ok on the cam gear trigger. Thanks

Sounds like you are or were an RV transporter or hotshot hauler to run up 460k miles!

I am not a mechanic and have no experience with engine swaps with Cummins engines but have always read and heard that the medium duty engines use a different ECM and programming than the engines installed in our Rams. I don't know if the various sensors are different.

I"m going to guess that you might be able to move your ECM, and sensors if needed, from your OEM engine to the replacement. Since your truck was orginally an automatic it was an "SO" instead of "HO" as all factory six speeds were so the internal components are probably the same as the commercial engine.

Yea I transport cars with the truck, so the downtime of a rebuild isn't feasable. I went ahead with the junkyard motor beacause it was the only one I could hear run, its an 01 non 53 motor so I shouldn't have too many headaches. Thanks for the input
