Hi,

In general, what is the differance between a exhaust brake, Jake brake, decompretion brake, etc. ? What does a big rig have that makes the neat farting sound?:D Can what the big rigs have be put on our engines? Thanks.

Robert

A Jake or Jacobs engine brake is a mechanical means of opening the exhaust valve at the top of the compression stroke and results in braking and the Famous Jake sound. An exhaust brake is a butterfly valve in the exhaust system that generates back pressure to retard the engine and drive train. A true Jake cannot be implemented on the "B" without a complete redesign of the head and valve train, that is why the exhaust brake was developed.
