Pulled a good size load last week and noticed the little chirp I used to get after shutting down the engine doesn't happen any more. Changed the oil. Still no chirp. I do let it cool down but would still hear a little chirp on shut off. Is there possibly something wrong? Still has plenty of power.

Fan belt Chirp

The fan belts chirp if the A/C is on. There is gator back belt by goodyear that correct the shutdown chirp.

Your probably OK

Have always heard the chirp with no a/c on. sometimes loud, sometimes just a little. don't mind the chirp but ever since after pulling a 38 ft trailer, that chirp dissapeared. Got 101000 on the truck and wondered if something let loose and will find out shortly. Thanks for the reply.

The chirp is caused by the belt screeching to a halt on the pulleys. When you shut the engine off the crank driven pulley stops immediately while the alternator and possibly a/c are still trying to drive the belt though conservation of momentum.

Some trucks do it some don't. It depends on the condition of the belt. Mine does it sometimes. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the responses. Was afraid I lost compression. From reading the other posts, sounds normal. Come to think about it, don't recall hearing the chirp after changing the belt tensioner and belt last week. Thanks again for the help.

Randy:)
