another wiring question

79 chevy?

Well, we started taking the Motorhome apart last night. I think I know what goes where, and am cataloging the pieces as they come off. Still can't see the engine. Tonight the fluids and hoses come off. We're not going to rush this as my buddy and I have day jobs that pretty well wipe us out before we get home. I'll post a few pictures of our progress as it goes along.

I was surspised to discover that most of the hoses and tubes on the Ford EFI gas motor are for emissions. It will be a lot easier to install the Cummins than to put that 460 in something else. I feel sorry for the guy who wants to buy it for his Pickup.

WIll keep ya'll posted from time to time and will hollar if I run across anything I can't identify.

I can SEE the old Ford engine finally! Should have it on the ground this weekend. THEN the fun begins. This is the part that's right up my alley. Making stuff go where it wasn't designed. HA!

I have pictures but can't figure out how to get my photo carrier Photogra.com to allow me to post them on the internet. Damn I miss Photopoint.

ford to cummins

Can't wait to see some pictures since I have a Pace Arrow and puttin in a CTD is hot in my mind.

Sorry for the delay in posting a link to the pictures. Kinda had a problem Monday on the way to work. Had a fool pull his Suburban in front of me and my motorcycle. Had to lay it down hard. Sore and skint up a little. No serious damage to the bike either. It's skint up too! Even 30 mph that darn pavement hurts!

So, I'm a little behind my schedule. Should be able to get back to it tomorrow.

CJ

p. s. Looks like the Ford engine will come out the front no problem.

My bus has the same front end as the PAce Arrow. If that will help you decide.

you're killin me. I did just that a while back on a 89 F250 with the 460/auto in it. i found my way to the carburetor (it actually had one) and started throwing hoses and valves in a 30 gallon trash can.

it was literally full when i got done :D

CJ, sorry to hear about your upset with the bike. Hasn't anyone told you that them things are dangerous. My wife and I just sold our Goldwing and already miss it, but we sold it for health reasons on my wifes part.

One thing that we learned over the years of riding was that "there is no safe way to ride a motorcycle- It's just an exercise in risk management". Anyway, pick it up and get back on and ride.

Best wishes,

Dennis... ...

Thought you guys would like to see some of the pictures at Photogra.com

There are a lot more I'll add soon so check back for updates.

The motor is out! YEA!

I have a few questions concerning the Allison setup in your conversion. First of all, how are you gonna mount it to the frame? I know that Allisons have a different way of mounting than lighter duty trannies but I dont know how it would go on a 1 ton truck. Also, what are you doing about the lack of a parking pawl? Does it have some sort of mechanical driveline brake and if so how is it setup. Also, how does the downshift mechanism work? Is it a bellcrank setup that is all mechanical, is it electronic, does it work off a vacuum signal from a vacuum pump? Finally, is this gonna be a 4wd? If so, are you just gonna use a divorced t-case setup? How would you go about doing that? I was gonna put my motor in my K5, but decided Im going to buy a crew cab Chevy K30 to put it in, and my plans are are an AT 542 or 545 and a divorced 205. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Cjohnson, I don't mena to butt in on you but, CumminsK5- Here's some pictures of what I did to bolt an AT542 to an NP208.

Thanks for providing an answer for CummingK5. I don't think I am ready for a transfer case in my Motorhome#ad

But a 6X6 Class A Coach would be interesting:--)

My Ford C-6 has a brake drum hydraulically operated on the tail shaft. I am planning on either adapting it to the Allison or finding a simular unit from a truck to use for my parking pawl. The Hydraulic system pulls a mechanical locking system so I should be able to make it work without to much hassel.

I feel like a moron, I thought you were putting the Cummins out of a motorhome in a Ford, thats what I get for not reading the whole thread. But a 6x6 motorhome would be cool. Anyway thanks for the help guys.

Well?

Either CJ fell asleep under the MH or he's having so much fun driving it he forgot to keep us posted.

Yahoo! CJ! Ya out there???????

Yea Larry, I'm here. Not much to report. It too HOT here to work outside very long and everybody in my life seems to think I need to drop my work to take care of their junk. It's coming along abeit slow. I have the wireing ready almost and have been making the mounts for the engine. Almost ready to stab it in. The radiator has been to the Radiator Shop for a good cleaning and the outlets are moved. I had a car motor blow up on me while on vacation in June and that threw everthing upside down. I ended up buying a 2000 Dodge Extended Cab Pickup (Cummins Powered). SO I am sparkless!:D Just not the way I thought I'd be.

I've kept an eye on the Board and reading many of the posts for encouragement. Hopefully I can get some of the "Honey Do's" out of the way and get back on my BABY!

Thanks for checking up on me!

transmission choice

CJ, what was the donor? I'm curious about your choice of an Allison. I am looking at a Bluebird bus as a possible donor vehicle and it has the Allison transmission.

Thanks,

Stevie G

CJ just called me the other day saying he had just gotten the engine in place. He said he had to move and a bunch of other stuff so hasn't been able to work on it much. Said he was getting back to it though and would be reporting soon here.

We'll see...
