its a Ram Sport with 5 speed manual. I have about 150. 000 miles. and around 75. 000 mil. the engine once and a while would just (catch) sometimes dying. but then would run good for a long time. I then put a Banks Plus Stinger kit on it. I took it in to the Dealer where they said it was a low map sensor voltage caused by my performance package. The Check engine light has poped up and off for the longest time. Recently I have experenced when I would try to accelerate and the thing would just fall on its face, (no power at all) and would slowly come back. I didn't know the RPM just tried to get the truck moving. Now the thing cuts out (dies) I restart dies again and I pull over then restart. and it runs and skips or misses. I just put a Fass lift pump on it thinking that would help. I just got a actron OBD II auto scanner. the codes that pop up are P0336, P0237, P1689, P1690,

Please help. I try doing all the work myself for you know how expensive things are. I don't know if I can trust driving it, or if it will damage it further.

Dan - Welcome to the TDR. Take a few moments and create a signature for your truck.

A signature w/info on your truck tells us a few things that will help everyone help you out. Plus it gives you a chance to flaunt what you got :-laf

As for your codes:
P0336 (M) Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
Signal
Problem with voltage signal from CKP.

P0237 (M) Map Sensor Voltage Too Low MAP sensor voltage input below the minimum acceptable
voltage.

P1690 (M) Fuel Injection Pump CKP Sensor
Does Not Agree With ECM CKP
Sensor
Problem in fuel sync signal. Possible injection pump
timing problem. Low power, engine derated, or engine
stops.

P1689 (M) No Communication Between ECM
and Injection Pump Module
Data link circuit failure between ECM and fuel injection
pump. Low power, engine derated, or engine stops.

I'd start with the cheapest thing - CKP. Some years back mine threw a ton of codes at me and it turned out to be the CKP, once I changed it out and cleared the codes - BINGO. CKP is a bit of a bugger to get out, but do a search here for tips, there was a member that recently provided some good info on tools and tips to get it out without breaking it. If it gets broken in the block that's a real joy to get out #@$%! Also, any parts you need for the engine - stay away from the local houses and definitely the dealer at all costs - get them from Cummins they're cheaper than the dealer and the right part needed.

Also for future reference see this helpful link with 24 valve codes one of our members created some time ago - copy the link to your favorites.

well after warming up the block, I finaly removed the CKP without breaking it off. (Lucky me) I have another question, I live kinda out in the boonies as far as not having a dealership or a Cummins in the area. Would anyone have a websight that would link me to a new CKP? I have tried websight after websight tried e-bay, performance diesel websights without luck.

While you still have the sensor out, check the tone wheel on the crankshaft. Easiest way to do this is use your finger or a small screwdriver and check for movement. The tone wheel is 2 pieces, so rotate the engine 180* and check it again. I have seen 2 that were loose (one came apart). Possible to replace/tighten back up w/o pulling the engine, but not fun.

If the face of the sensor has any wear marks on it, it is a given that your tone wheel is loose.

Thanks again. I will check the tone wheel for looseness and check out the sights. This tdr sight is the greatest!! and you all are very helpful. thanks again tdr!

Again thanks to all of you for the help. The tone wheel wasn't a issue. The Crank case sensor Has been the issue. Codes gone running great so far, (knock on wood)
