engine degreaser/cleaner -- any good ones out there?

i finally got cpff's amsoil replacement block adaptor on. i don't think there are any leaks. the only way i can check is if i clean the engine compartment and front drive train. i cleaned a bunch yesterday with shop towels, toothbrushes and simple green. is there a good engine degreaser/cleaner out there that y'all recommend?

p. s. so far so good with cpff's block adaptor which means no leaks. i will post with my findings in the next week.

I have used the GUNK brand degreasers before, and they seem to work fairly well.

Castrol Super-Clean works very well, just spray it on let it sit, but not dry, then rinse. Since I started using it I haven't touched my pressure washer.

thanks guys. here's a follow up i didn't think of before... . is there something i should cover before i do all this? normally i'd be concerned about ignition etc... . but now i'm a diesel guy (and **** proud of it!!).

I use Simple green. I would cover the relays and ECM with plastic wrap or something. I just use a garden hose 1/4 turned on with no nozzle to rinse. You don't get much splashing that way. Simple Green washes away all but the toughest heavy grease deposits.

i was using simple green on most of the stuff i could reach, but there was a lot of grime from being oiled and driven around. the stuff wouldn't let go with out being wetted down, sprayed with simple green, then scrubbed or brushed. don't get me wrong i love the stuff and buy it by the gallon, but there are some spots i can't reach to wipe or scrub.

I use the "Gunk ENGINE BRITE" all the time, works great. Simple Green works too, just avoid spraying it on the bare aluminum on the valve cover and rinse it really well. Simple green eats aluminum if its not completely washed away.

I use Simple Green dilluted 2:1 with water-- 2 parts water for every 1 part SG. Works great, I do it monthly. Be sure to do it on a lukewarm engine, seems to work better that way. Low pressure water is best for rinsing. #ad

I have heard that about Coke too. Supposedly its a great Degreaser. I heard it works good on greasy clothes too.

can that posibly be true? i'm sure i can get that castrol stuff cheaper (I know i can get the simple green cheaper) than a case of coke... . maybe those truck drivers are using the hose they fill up kegs with #ad

Maybe it's just me but I drink Coke. Weird eh? My $. 02 is GUNK's Engine Brite - Foaming version. It clings on where you spray it.

So far, I haven't got it wrong. GUNK is for the engine, Coke is for me!

Anyone ever try the Mopar degreaser from Dodge,,,a lot of the farmers around here use it on their machinery,,,and you know the kind of stuff that accumulates on their equipment,, ,,,i use it to clean chain grease off motorcyle wheels and motors,,,,it`s the best i`ve found to date and it`s cheap by the 5 gallon pail... Give it a try...

After trying to degrease and debug big trucks for years I found that Simple Green mixed 50/50 with diesel fuel works the best. Mix it up in a two gallon sprayer, shake it up, spray it on and let it sit for as long as you like; the diesel fuel keeps it from drying and then just spray it off with a hose. Works great on engines, frames, bugs.
