The other day, I was sitting in a parking lot at my destination for a couple minutes when suddenly my engine died and my dash started flashing between "Check Gauges" and a Water In Fuel indicator, with Electronic Throttle Control and a CEL light on. I was already parked so i didn't touch it for a couple hours but when I came back it started just fine.
On my way home, it died again the same way, but again started just fine within a minute. Only a minute later, died one more time but this time the starter would only click once, same thing it does when the batteries are too low. After about 20 minutes of trying to crank every 5 minutes or so, it wouldn't even give an indication that the starter was trying. After requesting roadside and another 20 minutes or so of trying to crank every now and then, it started just fine and had no issues the rest of the day.
Today, it died on the way to work and the starter wasn't even trying again.
Is it normal for the starter to just click once if it's dead and can a bad starter be the reason it's dying?
It's a 2008 Ram 2500 Quad Cab, 227k miles but I only got it 13 months and 12k miles ago.

Get a scanner on it and pull codes. I would then separate and load test the batteries. Also I would drain some fuel from the water drain on the filter and see if it smells like gasoline or has water in it. I recommend you park it till you diagnose it so you don’t do expensive damage or need a tow.
