Easy TDC Find on 2nd generation

Wheel Cleaning

My truck is a 96 so this will work on 94 to 98 trucks with the 12 valve engine but I don't see why it wouldn't work on all the CTDs.

If your truck doesn't turn over and you think it is Neutral Safety switch, Clutch switch, Starter relay or the start position on the ignition switch.

You can use a solid wire(house wire) to start the engine. Turn the key to the run postion, go to the PDC (power distribution center) under the hood pull the starter relay put one end of the wire in the female terminal nearest to the battery and the other end into the oppossite terminal (toward the cab) until engine starts.

If your start position on the ignition doesn't work you will have to lift up the rod to the starter solenoid (12 valves).

You can also rule out the starter buy using this method.

I keep a 6 inch solid wire (with insulation on it) in my truck all the time.

The wire in the photo is inserted into the female terminal (hot) the other end is ready to be inserted into the opposite terminal (to starter solenoid and fuel shut off solenoid). You don't have to insert wire end into the female terminals just touch the female terminals.

I think theres a large fuse for the starter in the pdc as well I remember mine wouldnt start I thought it was the starter but i had to change a fuse (from what i remember) It was a large green thing I got an extr inthe console but I dont remember exactly the circumstances other than it wouldnt start and i changed a green thingie (Technical talk aint it)

There are 4 green fuses in the PDC. Looking at my service manual fuse 2 (green 40 amp, labeled "ign run") in the PDC supplies power to the female terminal that #30 male terminal of the starter relay would be inserted into.

You can use a test light to check to see if fuse 2 (ign run) is supplying power to the female terminal for the starter relay or look at the fuse to see if it is blown.
