How hard is it to get out of the hole its buried in I am a large guy and can hardly see it none less get to the thing. Do I need to remove the fuel filter assembly or is there enough room to get it from underneath or not. Pointers appreciated from someone who has done one. It looks from what I see there are only 3 mounting bolts front back and bottom and 1 big connector on front is this right?

It will be easier to remove the ECM by moving the fuel filter housing out of the way. I've r&r'd mine more than a few times, had an original Catcher, then changed over to a Catcher with no-timing added, then changed back to a stock ECM and use the Smarty.

Use a step stool or something to get yourself up over the ECM. If I remember correctly, the wire harness is removed by a #4 allen wrench. Once everything is removed, you have to jockey it up through the various wires and hoses.

You seem to have figured out the plan of attack.

All of the above and disconnect the neg. battery cables, turn on your headlights and step on the brake peddle for ~30 seconds to drain the capacitors before you start. Anyone who wishes to state that this is not necessary, feel free. I do this because a VERY knowledgable mechanic friend of mine who builds winning racing engines told me to..... three minutes of extra work.

HMMMmmm - someone refresh my memory here, where is the odometer info stored - what little bits of specific vehicle info are stored in the ECM - is there the likelihood Bill will see a significantly different number of miles - or perhaps less - on his truck after the ECM swap? What other changes might there be? If there are significant changes, such as odometer reading - can they be modified? How?

Removal was simple after 2 fuel filter bolts were removed and housing layed out of the way only took about 5 minutes. Still waiting for ups to show up,I'm always at the end of his route. The joys of livin in the country I guess.

It's stored in the PCM on the firewall, I swapped my ECM out with no issues.
