Engine Exhaust System Modifications for 2007

2007 Engine Exhaust Systems

Did you know there are severe restrictions on the types of modifications that can be made to engine exhaust systems on 2007 engines?



The exhaust systems are now part of the engine emission controls and can’t be altered without affecting engine performance, compromising safety or potentially voiding engine warranties. Specific restrictions depend on the engine and chassis manufacturers. In general, no modifications may be made between the turbocharger and the diesel particulate filter, and only limited modifications may be made between the filter and the exhaust outlet. Restricted modifications include relocating components or rerouting exhaust pipes. They also may include adding components, such as exhaust brakes, or extending pipes.



Departments are strongly advised to consult with the engine or vehicle manufacturers before making any changes to the exhaust systems on apparatus equipped with 2007 engines.



Interesting that exhaust systems are now being considered part of the emissions systems.

It will only be a matter of time before there are ways around this. Computers are only so smart. And with the help of other computers, they can almost always be overwritten, out performed, and out smarted. Just be patient my friend. Now the EPA representative that shows up at your door... he's a different story #@$%!

I believe I read from Dodge that the muffler can be removed with no impact to emissions or the restriction mentioned above. Other than that, no other changes can be made legally speaking.

Yeah, the muff can be removed but the DPF is another story as of now. I don't think the muff makes much difference.

The muffler on the 6. 7 is only slightly bigger than a shoebox. Think it's just on there so D/C can say there is a muffler on it.

Well I removed mine and I couldnt tell a difference, the only thing changed is when it goes into regen mode theres a slight deep grown in cab.

I am driving a 07' that once I get a few more miles on her all that I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER is coming off mine as I know full well its to restrictive for the Cummins to make its best mileage, let alone the increase in HP we all know it would get...



I know I am going to need the help from a programmer to get this all done and work right for as keeping the EMU from probably going to shut down LOL... Heck with all the latest technology that is on the trucks, it would not surprize me once I get all this wonderfully expensive exhaust system off and in a safe place in my shop and start the CTD; that the truck doesn't automatically call the FEDS. and tell them that Jeb, just took his exhaust system off...



All kidding aside, I just think all this stuff is another issue our Gov't is going off into that is the wrong way to go about things and at my(tax payer) expense... I doubt this restictive exhaust sytem they have on my CTD is good for the valves and guides in the head. I just don't see how it can be!!!



I will be right in front row to get a programmer that will assist in the programming to get this off my CTD. Sooner as possible too.

You may be more correct than you know. The ECM will tattle like a school kid!I think even if you reprogram it will tell that. DCX or whoever will look for any excuse to void a warranty so Dr Z can make another million.

You are probably too young to remember when unleaded fuels made their debut in this country... but I remember people popping out the unleaded fuel filler restriction so they could pump cheaper leaded fuel into their vehicles and they destroyed their catalytic converters which wasn't a problem until MANDATED emission inspections came along and there were many people getting rather LARGE bills for replacing their catalytic converter and fines for having their unleaded fueling restrictor removed...



History will repeat itself with diesel trucks and all of their emission controls...

With a 350 thousand mile mean-time-to-rebuild, I think they'll be just fine.
