When I decelerate in 4th gear dropping my RPM’s to 1900 my engine hesitates or pulses. I can hear the drive shaft banging like I’m popping the clutch in and out. It goes away if I take my foot off the diesel or step on it. I think it happens in other gears as well. Any ideas on my engine hesitation?

Error code today P0401

I just got a P0401 code today. Think exhaust gas recirculation. I already got G30 awhile ago and got the latest updates a few weeks ago. This included some new sensors, software patches and 50 feet of fiberglass??? exhaust wrap. Around the pipe and sensor. Thinking it keeps the heet in. Still having my hesitation and it seems to be getting worse.

A lil tip on 401

When diagnosing DTC P0401 be aware that this fault code is related to fouled EGR coolers and not EGR valves. Please do not replace the EGR valve for P0401. . The P0401 fault is specifically related to soot fouling of the EGR cooler and not of the EGR valve. The proper repair practice should therefore be to clean the EGR cooler and perform the appropriate diagnostics per the diagnostic tree. If there are other faults related to the EGR valve, then that should drive EGR valve cleaning in addition to cooler cleaning.

Your signature does not specify auto or manual, but I'd suspect if you have the 68RFE, you may be experiencing some torque convertor unlock.

Mine does it occasionally, primarily when not up to operating temperature.

Day at the dealership

Got a little warranty work completed. EGR cleaning, new valve, and unknown sensors. Shutter and stutter gone. I still don’t get it…. .
