I've purchased things from Northern Tool in the past and had good luck with them. I think they're 1 step above Harbor Freight. That hoist looks very nice...

Should be fine. I have used the Harbor Freight unit with no problems; they are selling it for $149 I think (non-takedown model).

rb, yeah I've always felt that way too. Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I'll be getting one in the near future. Any idea on a stand? I'm sure it wouldn't be recommened to leave the engine hanging from the hoist. Can I sit the engine on its oil pan with blocks or something?

I just used one like this from Harbor Freight this past weekend. The last time I checked they are $199. 00. This is the space saver model...

I made a stand out of wood that runs along the oil pan rails to support the engine. It takes about $5-10 worth of wood to do it.

Being from MN we have Northern Tool and Equipment stores all over the place. Great stuff. I have one of their Cherry Pickers. I bent mine... . by lifting a 4x8 by 4'' thick piece of concrete on dirt... when the load shifted... . it turned over and bent one leg. Not the end of the world. I just flipped it over... hooked up a chain... and bent it back with it's own hydraulic cylinder.

The Engine stands are a little on the weak side... I'd order the strongist one they have...

Thanks Joe, sounds up my alley. I should be able to figure it out once I get there.

If you go with one of their engine stands, make sure its the heaviest (2k lbs) model they have. I just got done tearing down my 96 6bt last weekend, and had it on this stand, it worked well. And WHATEVER you do, make sure you get a 4 wheeled model, not a 3. The 3 wheeled models will tip over if you look at them wrong.
