I have a 2003 HO/6 speed.

On the passenger side /rear of the block is a metal pipe extending out from the block and up a few inches. It then transitions to 5/8" heater hose which feeds the cabin heater.

The metal piece extending off the block has rusted through. I can not even find a mention in the shop manual of this pipe to know what Dodge Actually names it. Does this pipe screw into the block or is it a bolt on/gasket fit.

Does anyone have a parts book that can give me the Dodge or Cummins part number for this piece of metal tube. If possible, both the Dodge and Cummins numbers would be most helpful. Presently the Ram is out of service.

Thank You

I think that the exhaust manifold heat is the concern. You might be able to route it away. But that #4 chunk of hose is special stuff because of the heat.

You may want to try it after you see the price.....

Part # 3979048

Right around $150.00 from Cummins......

Check Mopar but it is probably even more money.......

Mopar Part Number is 05086823AB. A lot cheaper from Mopar if what I am seeing on the net is for a current part....$36.00 to $50.00.
Check with your dealer if you have time to do so.
I think we batted this one around a couple of months ago and the Mopar one was cheaper which is not the usual case.

Thanks for your help and numbers. Had I seen the picture you posted, the job would already be done with a re-route. But in looking at the piece of pipe coming out from the block, I led myself to believe that the pipe entered the block at that point, thus the need to replace the pipe.

All my classic trucks are tucked away in the heated shop for the winter. I am stuck outside working on the Ram. I have roughly 16 hours per the weather report to work at temps in the mid 30's. Then the temps drop to zero and then 17 below on Wednesday. First thing in the morning, I am going under the truck measure the hose I need and a 90 degree fitting to turn the hose towards the fender, away from the manifold. If I hurry, I wont be to bad a job. No choice ha ha ha

Thanks for all your help........you saved me with the picture

You should wrap the hose in header wrap to help keep the heat off it. Simple to do and will buy you some time on the hose.
