Don't know if any of you have had this problem but the other day, my engine hour gauge (Idle hours vs Drive Hours) all of a sudden went back to ZERO for both categories! I have 30K miles on the truck and don't care overall that this happened given that I cannot help the "way" the truck's engine hours are spent either idling or driving. Just curious if any one else had this happen?
 
My drive hours reverted back to 0 after a trip to Chicago last October. I always write down my idle, drive, and odometer at the beginning and end of each day, so I now add 1,092 drive hours to it for actual figures.

I did take it to a dealer...they said the ECM was communicating the right numbers, but the cluster had a brain fart. I was at 3,873 average miles per hour.

It seems that in order to differentiate drive hours from idle hours, the ecm or ecu would need to communicate with both the pcm and bcm?

Makes me wonder if the ecm has a different number of idle hours than the 8 idle hours shown on my EVIC?

A little off topic but I noticed (like me) you have a manual transmission. Have you had to replace the clutch yet?

Nope. The dual mass flywheel, clutch, and master cyl/slave cyl unit are all original.

I don't anticipate any problems with the flywheel or clutch. But i might carry with me an extra master cyl/slave cyl unit on a cross country trip we make to oregon from Miami, FL this summer.

Once when backing a trailer up a 15%-20% ish grade hill and trying to clear 2 trees while backing around a corner into a campsite, i overheated the clutch. I smelled the clutch and stopped to let it cool down. It is still serving me well.

I only had to sniff that terrible stench of clutch burn twice: once when I was getting used to the truck (after I just purchased it) and was backing up a huge grade and did not realize until it was too late that I was riding that clutch too much....other time from a dealership after it was serviced and the "kid" who was moving the vehicles from point A to point B, he must have had no experience driving a manual so after getting the keys back, I noticed that same smell as I entered the cab area. Hope it lasts me a long time (I'm at 30,000 miles now).

I don't tow as much now as i did the first 2-3 years i had the truck. So. I expect the flywheel and clutch plates to last 100k. (Even with some abuse). I like to use the E brake to slow down when i have space, so I'll often dump the clutch in a downshifted gear to slow down. The clutch/flywheel assembly is robust enough to take it...... It seems.

I like the Exhaust Brake (use it all the time)...the combination of me gearing down + e-brake saves the brake pads in my opinion. I had many people tell me that gearing down in a manual can harm the transmission...maybe so BUT I have had many manual jeeps, pickups, etc. and have nothing but success gearing them all down in a reasonable manner. My Jeep (10 years old) still had original clutch and transmission when I sold it!
