While accelerating up to highway speed my engine just shut off, like I had turned off the key. The lights work, a/c blower works, radio and dash lights work but it will not even attempt to start, no bump, no nothing. I had it towed to a shop I use and they will look at it Mon. I have not had this problem before or heard of it. Anyone have any ideas about what it might be?

Fan (or any other ECU connected component) shorting out will take down the data bus and it is dead in the water. It should still crank but if it pops a relay in the TIPM, no crank.

No fuel shutoff solenoid to worry about, that isn't the way the CR systems work. Just shutting down and no crank usually means something critical failed.

Shop tried to pull codes but couldn't, they are going to check voltage in different places. Have a feeling it's going to be the tipm.

If they cannot pull the codes it is likely the ECM, unless a short is taking the bus down. If they are getting as NO BUS error that has to be fixed first or the ECM will not respond with codes. Hopefully they are smart enough to start disconnecting peripherals until they are sure.

The shop has traced it to something called a scream modual, power goes in but doesn't come out. It's on national back order. This modual has been revised a number of times. The part number starts with AQ rather than the normal AA which means they have redone it a bunch.

I think that is Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM). You have the Playskool key, right? I guess if it goes completely south it would cause a no start. Why it would cause a stall is another question, should not do that by design but hard telling what happened internally.

Mine allows the truck to start but it shut off after about 10 seconds. Maybe it just decided the key wasn't valid anymore.

I always carry a "made key" in my pocket, the truck would start with it then die. It will do nothing with this or the one I usually use or the factory spare that has never been used. Tests show power going into the modual but nothing coming out. I do have one on the way.

EB,

Sorry that you are having trouble. Hope it is repaired quickly.
How many miles now?

Blessings

Jesse

The shop did more checking and found out there was no power coming out of the tipm, put that in and there is power going to the computer but nothing coming out. It will crank now but not start. Computer is being ordered Monday. It's starting to get expensive.
To answer your other question, I'm a little over 625,000 miles now.

Make sure they check the fan and other direct connected accessories to make sure one of them has not shorted out and took down all the computers. Would be bad ju-ju to replace all that and have short out again.

I'll make sure they check those things, thanks.

After two shops a tipm and a pcm-ecm??, Dodge parts, not aftermarket, and over $4000 parts and labor the truck still won't start. Will be loaded on a wrecker tomorrow and taken to a dealer. The second shop used to be a five star dealer shop and had the right computer to load it and downloaded the correct program from Dodge but the truck computer wouldn't accept it. Maybe the dealer can do something with it.

Seems like there might be something wrong in the BUSS communication system. When I installed my Lockpick, it interrupted the BUSS communication, not allowing me to crank it over. After several different lockpicks and many tech support phone calls, we finally got it to communicate with the truck. Although it still randomly shows the airbag light it has worked as advertised. It will show with the Witech computer, that it has a communication issue by showing the REC radio in grey.

Hope you get it solved, maybe its time for another C&C, although I would purchase a regular HO 3500 and remove the bed.
