well not quite nowhere in middle of Michigan’s UP near Crystal Falls. Towing tt 6-700 miles from home engine light comes on . All vital signs are normal and truck still operating normally. Then on a hill would not down shift ( cruise not no at the time) was following school bus. Truck really dogged up hill.
Got to campground and while filling camper with water truck was making random throaty sounds sort of puffing sounds while idling . Got parked at site ok . Now I need to pick up OBD reader to figure out is the problem is even though I know I cannot fix it ( most likely) . Going to a advanced auto tomorrow hopefully to get / buy a scanner.

Now what scanner should I be looking to get ? Should I even buy one at advanced auto?
I’m probably going to wait till Monday to attempt to get home from here

Most Chrysler vehicles can spit out the diagnostic codes using the odometer. Grab a pen and paper. Insert the key and turn to ON (not RUN) three times: OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON. Leave ON and the odometer should cycle through the codes finishing with "P done". There might be two sets of codes: ECM (E codes) and PCM (P codes).

What key??? Fob has a backup key to open the door. Push button to start!

Cycle the key.
I think that may have ended with the 5.9 in early 2007. I did that with my 2001.5 quite often until I bought a scan tool from NAPA in the 2004-08 time frame. It still works on my 2015 and I have to reset that fuel cap loose code on my wife's Buick Rainier all the time.

Will try in morning

Tradesmen! 5.0

Ok got U029D code
Also turbo boost control solenoid A circuit
Found mouse nest under fuse box ( removed)
Green wire black strip a bit chewed but believe to be still intact.
Considering disconnecting battery’s to lift off top of under hood fuse box to better examine wires.
Anything a need to know as to disconnecting and re connecting batteries.
I barely have any service here
The engine light did go out or a short time & truck seems to be running ok but I’m not towing.

Wife thinks we should just take truck to dealership Monday and stay at camp till fixed. I’m voting to start back Monday and see if we can make it 600 miles. I do need to go back to work

I'm betting turbo actuator codes. Sounds exactly like mine when actuator died.

Definitely recommend AlfaOBD and a Bluetooth OBD adapter. I'm using the OBDLink MX

You are correct! Turbo actuator to be replaced Monday. We made it back home ok . Truck ran well all but one time, refused to down shift on a on ramp
