I have a problem with my engine that seems strange to me and everyone I have talked to about it. I was hoping for some insight. If I am driving along at a steady speed and I have to suddenly let off of the fuel and get on the brakes quickly the engine seems to miss or skip, idle up rapidly and then smooth back out. Every time this happens the engine light comes on and may only stay on a few minutes or a few days and eventually goes back off. I scan for codes and the scantool gives me the code for the cam position sensor. The sensor was replaced under warranty once but the problem was not resolved. I have no faith in the dealership mechanics (long story and believe me I have plenty of reasons). The engine doesn't run any differently any other time. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If the light is going out by itself, that means that the fault is clearing itself after three successful starts in a no fault condition. The fault can still be read, but won't illuminate the check engine light.

You may have a loose connection to the CPS. Or possibly a chafed wire. Look around the sensor and make sure everything is tight.

Also, tell us about your truck. Year, modifications, etc. so we have a little more to go on.
