More of a question/inquiry than anything.

Reading Mr. Ames thread about a mysterious oil leak and possible causes, it made me wonder:

How long will our engines last with modifications?

As pointed out in the above mentioned thread, most, if not all, of the trucks that have broken a million miles were stock.

So, how long would our engines last with performance enhancing mods? And to what extent are those modifications?

Who has a bombed, daily driver that has gobs of miles on it? I'd love to see how things are going.

I have always said the IC motors are a HP/hours design.

Hp goes up so does the wear and down with life.

It is a logrithmic scale.

Just like rpm is to wear.

And, it is all dependant on lube/oil quality.

the newer engines have a life expectancy of 350k . many have a million or more . my first engine , despite all the tender love with frequent oil changes, made 257k then broke the crank . it broke in the throw between number 5 and 6. I plastic gaged some of the remainder of the caps all were within the tolerance. yours will probably last forever and mine has and had a number 8 plate .

we have a 94 with over 1,000,000 miles on it. never been into, tows a lot and was modified in late 93. i expect to get that many miles out of all of our trucks, of the 94 to 98. 5 trucks a 98 has the most mod's the p7100 has a marine camshaft and barrels the injectors were for a marine application and the plate was built in my shop. the timing was set to 15* and a waste gated turbo change. it is not used as much as the other trucks but still has over 350,000 on it. we just recently changed the turbo to a he351c that we took off of one of our 06's. a lot of the mods on the 04. 5 up actually extend the life of the engine besides giving a extra 100 hp to the rear wheals

I am at 240k on the clock and have laid down 550hp at the ground on fuel and done 799hp with nitrous on a single HTT Pro-Street 66 turbo with my daily driver. I make no changes for dyno shows and it is my only means of transportation and has been for a long time. other than lifting the headgasket a couple of times while tuning I have had zero issues with the motor.

I will stop back in tomorrow answer your quetion about the extent of the mods as i am slipping out to work now... ..... Andy

GAme's truck has had engine mods for many years and hundreds of thousands of miles although I don't know exactly when and at what odometer reading he did the mods.

His truck has been used for years transporting RVs all over the US and Canada. Even though he recently reported excessive oil consumption his engine is far from used up. If he corrects the oil consumption cause I would bet on it reaching the million mile mark.

You can't beat a Cummins ISB in our Dodge Rams!

My truck has a little over 415 kmiles on it. It runs right at 300 HP per dyno.

Had to do the head gasket at 125 kmiles and do the KDP.

Other than that it has been normal maintenance and it runs really good.

I expect it to run at least as long as it has already.

Oh, I have had bypass oil filter on it and changed all oils at 25,000 mile intervals with analysis, it all looks good.
