I noticed my truck was acting funny yesterday, and I was wondering if anyone can help diagnose the problem. When I'm coming to a stop, the truck starts shuddering around 20 mph, then when I get almost to a complete stop, it doesn't do it any more. I've tried down-shifting and coasting to a stop, and it does it either way. It's fine when I accelerate and while I'm driving at a constant speed. It almost acts like when you're slowing down and forget that your truck is in gear. Is this a transmission problem, or something with the engine? I appreciate any help and advice. My truck is still under warranty for another 800 miles (hopefully is had nothing to do with the Xzillaraidor XZT I have installed), so I'd like to figure it out quickly. Thank you for your help in advance!

Go for a drive, 10-15 miles or so.

When you get home/work crawl underneath and feel the joints. My center one was so hot I couldn't hold on to it. It was seized up completely.

My center joint went out at 52K.

Does it do it with the clutch in or out or does it not matter?

It doesn't seem to matter. I tried it with and without the clutch and it seemed to do the same thing.

I bet you it's the joint.

You can't tell it's bad while the shaft is in the truck except for feeling the heat coming from the joint.

Once you pull the shaft out you will see that the joint is shot.

Jcasper is right on, my center joint went out at 50k as well. I first thought it was the carrier bearing but after reaplacing all three the center joint was the culprit. I would of never of guessed it. I replaced them with greasable spicers.

greaseable u-joints

Just an FYI:

I just had had my u-joints replaced with factory greasable ones at the dealer. Guess they just came out with them. (U-joints for the front axle). I think they also have them for the drive shaft. .

You might want to check to see if your dealer has them. They were cheaper than the aftermarket ones.

By 82K miles I have had all the ball joints, both front axle Ujoints and both the Ujoints on the rear drive shaft replaced with greasable units. Only the one U-joint didn't need it, but thought I had better do it anyway, to stay away from having it come back to haunt me.
