Are there any recommendations of maintanence issues or performance upgrades that would be preferable while the CTD site on the ground before installing into the truck... . filters, turbo housing, thermostat, etc...
This is a great bunch of guys and a massive amount of experience and knowlege is on tap here. As far as your engine, if it is an 89 - 97 the most important thing is what is known as the Killer Dowl Pin (KDP) this is a locating dowl pin that positions the front engine cover. The problem is it is in an open hole and can vibrate out and fall into the timing chain, which results in massive damage to the front of the engine. There are two fixes just search on "KDP*" and that should pull up lots of info. The next thing is replace the front and rear crank seals and the last thing would be change all the filters before you fire it up. I'm sure others will add to the list.
The last thing that would help others to help you, would be to fill out your signature block with you rigs details, that way we can see what you have and what mods you've done. To do this click the "user cp" button at the top of any forum page, then select "edit profile" and fill in your info.
