Does any know what it may be. When I shut off the engine it some times makes a screech sound like a belt slipping or something like that. It is a 01' with 23,000 miles. Thanks in advance for any help given.

Best Wishes,

Austin

It's perfectly normal - the compression of the engine stops it faster than the accessory drive can stop, and the serpentine belt chirps. If you want to get rid of the chirp (a lot of us don't mind it - it's part of the personality of the Cummins), try a replacement Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt.

Welcome to the TDR.

The TDR has separate forums for 1st gens, 2nd gens, and 3rd gen trucks. Your 2001 is a 2nd gen truck, so if you post questions specific to your truck in the 2nd gen forum, you will get better responses from other members who watch that forum.

Also, if you complete your signature with truck information, we'll be better able to answer questions in the future about your truck.

Austin~

If you don't like the screech and get the Gatorback... . keep the old one for a spare!

Catch ya in the 2nd Gen forum... .

My truck has the same chirp when I shut the engine down.

I just grin and say "Yup! That's my Cummins in there... " :)

As long as it don't squeal when running and all the accessories do their thing..... don't sweat the small s. . t

The trucks with manual transmissions don't chirp nearly as much

because the engine does not stop as fast- the clutch,

flywheel etc is heavier... if you shut it off with the clutch pedal in

maybe you'll get da squeal. ;)
