Does any know what it may be. When I shut off the engine it some times makes a screech sound like a belt slipping or something like that. It is a 01' with 23,000 miles. Thanks in advance for any help given.

Best Wishes,

Austin~

it's your belt slipping. it's totally normal. as long as the belt is in good shape, I wouldn't worry about it. My belt doesn't chirp on my '97, but it did on my '91, and I liked the sound! :D

Did you check the other thread you opened in the 3rd generation forum? I answered your question there. :D

Manual transmission trucks don't do it... . there's a lot more rotating mass with the flywheel/clutch/transmission innards... so the engine comes to a stop kinda slowly.

Automatics do it 99. 44% of the time... the engine comes to a halt and the accessories are still going... thus the screech.

I've never payed any attention to whether the 3rd Gen trucks do it or not...

You should also notice that it is more likely to chirp on HOT days than on cold days. If it is hot and the fan clutch is locked - it will chirp. If it is cold or if your fan clutch is toast then the fan will free-wheel to a stop, and no chirp.

DGFoster is right. I found out about the Gatorback belt off this site, put it on and the chirp is gone, and hasn't done it since. I didn't mind it but got tired of defending my truck's honor all the time. Too many people asked, WHAT'S THAT NOISE ? WHATS WRONG WITH YOUR TRUCK ?

My GF asked what it was... ... I explained that these engines produce so much torque that to stop them a "TORQUE BRAKE" is required. :D She goes OH! That's cool!... ... . I didn't have the heart to tell her I was kidding.
