Hi guys. Just came back from a 1100 km round trip (pulling 3000 lbs), the truck started missing every now when gunning it from idle. Sounds like a POP sound through my straight pipe. Then, I ran out of diesel 1 mile from home, I got a jerry can, filled up, and cycled the key a few times, and fired up. The engine has very little power now and the check engine light is on. Is this a limp mode of some sort?

The truck has 9000 kms on it with straight pipe and AFE stage 2 intake. Any ideas what I'm up against? Another really annoying thing is the transmission. I'll be pulling up a hill, going 2300 in 4th, it'll shift down to 3rd, redline for a minute, then shft right back where it was. Is this normal? I'm starting to regret this purchase... please help someone before I go to the stealership!

The trans is a pain but you gotta drive it a little different than the older ones. First, tow-haul should hold lockup and OD better, at least it does on my 05. At 2300 rpm's it should hold OD and lockup if there are no other problems. I have found that you cannot run more than 80% throttle under about 70 mph without downshifting.

As far as the missing and popping it sounds like you have a hung open injector and now something else is putting the truck into limp mode. Exactly what it is will take a scan tool and probably the dealer. Check your oil and make sure you aren't making oil and have it diluted with diesel.

Good luck.

Can you post some codes for us? That would give us a starting point. Cycle the key 3 times and they will pop up on the odometer. (sorry if you all ready know how to do this).

P0299 - end.

Thanks for the hookup, I didn't know that trick (I'm new to the Cummins/Dodge thing).

If anyone can give me some info that'd be great. (And thanks for the replies to the above two, I appreciate it. It seems this is a cliquey forum here, new members don't get any help from the "established" high - rollers... )
