About 3 weeks ago, my truck started missing under hard acceleration at about 2700 rpm. It also puffed blue smoke. I changed the fuel filter, and it seemed to help some but not much. No codes or engine check lights yet. Took to local garage and they said air filter was a little dirty and possibly my wastegate wasn't working possibly but he wasn't sure. It does't seem to be as bad now as it was 3 weeks ago. It still blows smoke and doesn't seem as fast. It also used to blow a little black smoke under hard acceleration but now it seems weaker. Any ideas?? Possible bad fuel??

Boost leaks there are 9 clamp on the boots that need to be toqued to 95 inch LBS NOT FT LBS

I understand the torque inch not feet, but not sure what boots or boost you are talking about please send more info. Thanks

There are 4 soft boots from your turbo to interclooler to engine. Also the clamp just under the turbo. I was looking for a scmatic can't find right now.

Thanks, will check that in a day or so we are having rain, rain, rain.

Are you still on the same tank of fuel as when the problems started? Have you hooked up a fuel gauge at the fuel filter head coming out of the filter?

Haven't tried that. But I am not on the same tank of fuel. I have tried the bio soy diesel two or three tanks prior to problem.

Bio WILL clog your filter because it cleans the crap out of the tank from #2

If you dont have an in-cab fuel pressure gauge on a VP pump, I wouldnt drive it. (just my opinion)

First thing you need to check is fuel pressure. When or if have you changed the lift pump?

Definetly sounds like a fuel issue. Do you have any codes when you do a 3-key-on ignition cycle?

I guess I will purchase a pressure gauge. I changed the lift pump last Dec. 04.

Not sure how to do the 3-key-on ignition cycle but will try.

I just pulled the codes and found that P1693 which I understand is a code not to worry about. I also found 2 other codes, P1694 and P1687 and was just wondering if anyone knew what these codes mean.

Ok, today I noticed I was not hearing the sound from the lift pump when I turned on the key switch. Does this mean my pump is dead??

Also is there some sort of additive or something I can do to keep the VP44 from running dry until I can get it to the dealer???

You should bump the starter to see if L/P runs. It should run for 20 seconds or so.

Stanidine is a great product. No not at dealer, go to a truck stop.
