Unless things have changed, you are not able to monitor the engine via the data link connector (3-pin connector under the hood). Dodge in their infinite wisdom has denied any communications at that port. I did lots of research and discuss it in this thread.
That leaves you with OBD-II monitoring. There are lots of software codes out there that will do this for you: some run on PC, some on a PDA. Our trucks use a CAN (Controller Area Network) and whatever you buy I highly recommend getting something that is currently offering CAN communications or will offer it in the near future with a free upgrade.
