I originally posted an 'Engine Noise' problem on 9/5/04 on this site. Since that date I have driven the truck little and it is now in Hobbs, NM(towed) at Cap Rock Diesel with the engine out.
#4 cylinder has a scored cylinder and will require at least a rebore and new sleeve. Connecting rod bearing was also scored but John Chila of Cap Rock believes piston problem caused the bearing score. What has not been determined is what actually caused the problem. Cap Rock is going to send the injectors out see if they (#4 especiallly) might have been the cause.
I suggested that maybe a ring broke but engine has not been dissasembled completely yet.
This is going to seriously affect my checkbook.
Anyone have ideas as to where else to look for a cause? :{
Thanks in advance.
