I’ve got an engine noise on a new ’01 24v auto truck that really doesn’t sound normal. It’s sort of a high pitched chirping that seems to come from the left side of the engine. I’ve had a couple other 24v trucks and do not recall this noise. It’s like the engine is making 2 different sounds. You have the hum of the engine that we all live for, and then you have this high pitch noise that just irritates you to death. I only hear this sound when accelerating and cruising at or above 1900 rpms. It seems to get a little less severe after the engine is completely warmed up after a 30-40 mile ride, but is still noticeable. My only good guess is maybe the fuel pump or water pump, but have no experience to back that up.

I don’t feel like I’ve done a real good job of describing my problem but maybe somebody out there will know what’s going on. Thanks.

A frined of mine with an '01 had a chirping while accelerating but it was on the passenger side. It sounded like a bird was stuck in the turbo! Three of the exhaust manifold bolts were sheared off from getting it a little too hot (heat expansion I guess). The chirp was caused at higher boost pressure by the exhaust leak.

If it is on the drivers side, check the gasket(s) where the intake heater is...

Good Luck
