Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) engine noise

just got a 96 2500, the dealer i bought it from is the local ctd guru. he installed a #8 plate and a BHAF. have been driving it for about 600 miles and i think i hear a engine noise (almost like a tap or knock noise) hard to hear at idle in park or nuetral, but when put in gear it can be heard. he listened to it and said it is normal diesel noise. planning on checking the valve adj. this weekend. anything else ? truck has 175,000 on it

possible it's the lift pump tapping, it's by the starter

Put a stethascope on the fuel return line, the metal portion under the truck. That can have a tick tick noise also. Bill
