2003 3500 Black SLT 4 dr.

When I take off or press the throttle it sounds like the valves are rattling some. Once I get into it it goes away until I'm going at a speed that I don't have the throttle down or i let off a little and it starts again. When pulling a load you can really hear it .

Again, I think this is a characteristic of the common-rail engine. I think you hear things you wouldn't normally hear on the older 24V engines due to noise reduction. Mine makes similar noises, seems to be different stages of injector timing (common-rail). I've noticed if the truck is shut off warm and then re-started and driven within 10-15 min, under initial acceleration the injection is real noisy for like 1-2 seconds (sounds like a gen 2), the quiets back down. I've never given it much thought, it is most likely normal.

Mine does this also. seems like it has to do with a load being place at low rpm's valve clatter goes away once rpm's have picked up for a second. here again big rigs make this same sound. :) no worries.

I have the same noise and expect it is normal. Rather than a valve rattle, what it is is likely the pre-injection having less of an effect than it usually does due to change in load not compensated for fully by the ECM.

In other words, this is your truck WITHOUT common rail injection and pre-injection.

Probably would have been louder than my '01.
